Police arrest six officers in Cross River over extra-judicial killing


Six officers of the anti-kidnap and anti-cultism unit of the Nigeria Police, Cross River State Command have been detained at the Police Headquarters in Calabar.

According to report the suspects,were alleged to have murdered six suspects accused of kidnapping a business woman in Ikom LGA.
The alleged killer cops were said to have been dispatched from Calabar to Ikom to rescue the kidnapped victim after the abductors demanded N50m ransom.
The kidnappers, it was gathered, were arrested by the detained Police Officers alive, taken to Ikom Police station for display and later taken back to the forest and murdered.
The detained Policemen reportedly claimed the suspects engaged them in a gun duel.
Consequently, a highly-placed police source hinted that the Commissioner of Police, Inuwa Hafiz accused the six policemen of extra judicial killing.
When DAILY POST called the Police public Relations Officer, Ms Irene Ugbo, Thursday evening, she declined picking her calls, nor reply to text message sent to her phone.
But our correspondent who monitored a private radio station in Calabar, observed that Ms Ugbo confirmed the arrest and detention of the officers.
